This 9-day active adventure combines two of Tanzania’s most iconic experiences – summiting Mount Kilimanjaro followed by a rewarding wildlife safari. The itinerary is carefully structured to maximize achievement while ensuring proper recovery, making it ideal for physically fit travelers seeking both challenge and relaxation. With this taking the Machame route short 6 days trekking will make you exhausted but adventurous.
Your journey begins at Machame Gate, where you’ll register before entering the lush rainforest. The trail winds through dense vegetation alive with birdcalls and the occasional blue monkey. As you climb, the air grows cooler and the trees taller, their branches draped in moss. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Machame Camp, where your crew will have tents ready. Enjoy your first mountain dinner as the forest canopy darkens around you.
Emerging from the rainforest, the landscape opens dramatically into heath and moorland. Giant groundsels and lobelias appear like alien plants against the volcanic soil. The trail steepens as you ascend the Shira Plateau, rewarding you with your first clear views of Kibo Peak. At Shira Camp, the air is noticeably thinner, and the sunset paints the surrounding peaks in gold.
Today follows the crucial "climb high, sleep low" strategy. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower, a 300-foot volcanic rock pillar at 4,630m, where the thin air tests your stamina. After lunch, descend into the Barranco Valley, passing through surreal landscapes of giant senecios. The day culminates with views of the imposing Barranco Wall, which you’ll tackle tomorrow.
Habitat: Alpine Desert The morning begins with the famous Barranco Wall scramble - more thrilling than technical. At the top, panoramic views stretch across the valley. The trail then winds through the Karanga Valley before the final push to Barafu Camp ("Ice Camp" in Swahili). After an early dinner, rest in your tent as you prepare for the midnight summit attempt. Temperatures will drop well below freezing point.
Awakening at 11 PM, you’ll begin the grueling 6–7-hour ascent by headlamp. The switchbacks up loose scree seems endless until you reach Stella Point (5,739m) at dawn. The final push to Uhuru Peak reveals glaciers glowing in sunrise light. After celebrating at the summit sign, descend to Barafu for a short rest, and spend the night there for Acclimatization.
The final day is a relaxed descent through the rainforest, where the air becomes warmer and more humid. Climbers often feel refreshed and energized after conquering the summit. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, climbers receive their summit certificates, marking the successful completion of the Kilimanjaro climb. From here, tourist is transferred back to Arusha or Moshi for celebrations and much-needed rest. After completing this journey, Following the descent, travelers enjoy a recovery day in Arusha before embarking on a 4-day safari through Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater
The guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive you to Tarangire National Park. Spread out 600 meters below, the 260-square-kilometer crater floor appears like a self-contained Eden, its soda lakes glinting in the sunlight while distant specks reveal themselves through binoculars as grazing wildebeest or elephants. This is when the true scale of Ngorongoro's natural wonder becomes apparent. After an early view this is where we depart for Arusha marking the end of your Safari with Asili Safaris.
