Your birding adventure begins with an easy morning transfer from Arusha town to Arusha National Park, a remarkably diverse ecosystem often overlooked by safari-goffers. The short 40-minute drive gives you your first taste of Tanzania's birdlife, with roadside sightings of superb starlings and hadada ibises likely even before reaching the park gates. Morning exploration focuses on the Momella Lakes, a series of shallow alkaline pools that transform into living mosaics of color. You will depart to Serengeti from Tarangire, the vast plains of the Serengeti unfold before you, a seemingly endless expanse of grasslands, woodlands, and rocky outcrops that support one of Africa's richest avian communities. Over four days, you'll explore the park's varied habitats, each offering unique birding opportunities against the backdrop of the world's most famous savanna. Your exploration begins in the Seronera Valley, the biological heart of the Serengeti. Here, among the acacia groves and seasonal streams, you'll search for the rufous-tailed weaver, a Serengeti endemic that constructs intricate nests dangling from thorn trees. Overhead, the unmistakable silhouette of lappet-faced vultures circles on broad wings, their bald, pink heads a stark contrast to the deep blue sky. These massive scavengers dominate carcasses, often displacing smaller vulture species with their sheer size and aggression.
Then the second day you get ready for even more exploration. After an early breakfast you will rest for the daytime getting ready for a night game drive. For those seeking a different perspective, an optional night drive reveals the Serengeti's nocturnal avian residents. A spotlight might catch the glowing eyes of a Verreaux's eagle-owl, Africa's largest owl, perched solemnly on a dead tree limb. Then the third day you will have a day time game drive Venturing into the Western Corridor, the landscape changes as the Serongeti's rivers carve through the plains. On the second day at lake Manyara you will have a full day exploration. A highlight of your time here is a canoe safari along the lake’s quieter margins (seasonal), where you’ll drift past reed cormorants drying their wings and malachite kingfishers—tiny ‑ashes of electric blue—darting among the papyrus. The stillness of the water allows for unparalleled close encounters with African jacanas walking delicately across lily pads and pied kingfishers hovering like helicopters before plunging for fish. As evening falls on your final day, the Manyara escarpment glows gold in the fading light, and the air fills with the calls of nightjars and owls.
